Chainsaws, shotguns, axes, a stuffed shark and a boxing punch bag...

...I've seen them all adorning the office walls of financial advice firms up and down the country.  One IFA had his own planetarium and another a Jacuzzi...

And yes, we had our meeting in the bubbling hot tub!

I've met literally thousands of financial advisers over 35+ years in financial services and these were the ones who stood out from the crowd in their own unique way.  I didn't know it at the time, but these were also some of the most successful IFAs and financial advisers around.

There was something unique about them - and they each knew that 'people buy people'.  Their clients loved them for who they were.

Since I wrote my marketing book Successful Seminar Selling in 2003, we’ve seen huge developments in how IFAs, planners and advisers market and promote their businesses - and how they differentiate themselves from others.

Referrals, seminars and local advertising were very much at the heart of how advisers attracted new clients - but there was a new kid in town…

Back then, Social Media was in its infancy, but fast-forward to 2017 and Facebook is closing in on 2 billion monthly active users...

Visits to social networking sites have exceeded visits to search engines since 2010 and this new media has had an undeniable influence on how consumers find, assess, interact and engage with, review and refer professional service providers like you.

Only yesterday I was looking for such a firm and whilst I found some valuable and informative websites, it was their ‘online tone of voice’ which was the deciding factor in who I contacted.

After a slow start to embrace Social Media, most IFA and financial advice firms are now using LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to a greater or lesser degree in their businesses – but the overwhelming majority do not have any documented Social Media plan, and this means they're missing out on high quality opportunities

But let's be clear...  Marketing for financial advisers is not just about Social Media!  There's a lot more to it than that...

Whilst I’m the first to say that Social Media has ever growing importance in how professional service providers promote themselves, I’m also still incredibly passionate about the importance of financial advisers ‘getting out there’ and being seen at local events, seminars and networking events.  In other words – marketing themselves live…

When you combine ‘live marketing’ with Social Media, you have an incredibly powerful means with which to highlight your expertise, credibility, trustworthiness and professionalism – and this in my view is the way forward for financial advisers who are looking for high quality new clients.

But there’s another problem which we also need to tackle…

When we ask IFAs and advisers what one issue they would like to address most of all when it comes to their use of the Internet, they tell us…

“We’d like to convert more of our website visitors into leads and clients…  Far too many visit our website but don't convert...”

So we have a solution.  An opportunity if you like...

We’re excited to launch our new Private Membership Community for Financial Advisers... it's all about showing-off you and your financial advice practice in the best possible light.

It's about highlighting what you're most proud of in your business...
